Ray Royce, executive director of the Highlands County Citrus Growers Association, has an important reminder: “Tomorrow, April 15, is the closing date to have your Multiple Peril Crop Insurance policy for citrus in place for the upcoming year.”

Royce reminds growers, “If you received, or are expecting to receive in the future, any hurricane relief funds, one of the primary conditions is that you have crop insurance moving forward. If you do not have your crop insurance for the upcoming year in place come tomorrow afternoon, you could very well be subject to having to return all of the hurricane relief proceeds you received.”

He encourages any growers who have questions to contact their crop insurance providers immediately.

Those growers interested in the new crop insurance endorsement, Hurricane Insurance Protection – Wind Index, have until April 30 to purchase that coverage.
