Sneak Peek: September 2021 Citrus Industry

Tacy CalliesSneak Peek

The September issue of Citrus Industry magazine largely focuses on two topics: nutrient management research and highlights from the return of the in-person Citrus Expo.

NUTRITION RESEARCH
Several features authored by University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences authors share the latest strategies for improving nutrition of citrus trees.

Yiannis Ampatzidis and Ute Albrecht discuss the newest technologies that can help growers achieve better nutrient analysis. Find out how drones and artificial intelligence can determine leaf nutrient concentrations and speed data collection. The authors also explain how the Agroview application can create detailed fertility maps.

Rhuanito Ferrarezi and his colleagues write about high-density grapefruit plantings and enhanced nutrition. They share results on tree growth, yield and fruit quality from various nutrient treatments they tested in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Tripti Vashisth and Davie Kadyampakeni report on studies that showed regular leaf nutrient analysis improved HLB-affected trees. Their work with growers and the Citrus Nutrition Box Program revealed that not all scions and rootstocks have the same nutrient profile. Learn what else they found.

An article by Kadyampakeni, Evan Johnson, Kelly Morgan and Ali Atta shows that combined use of micronutrients and macronutrients appears to improve root growth and fruit yield.

EXPO COVERAGE
