Emma Reynolds Ezell will become president of the Highlands County Citrus Growers Association (HCCGA) board of directors during the association’s March 3 annual meeting. Ezell previously served as president in 2015 and has been on the association’s board of directors since 2014. She is involved in both her own and her family’s citrus growing, caretaking and harvesting business. Ezell is one of only four women to serve as a director of the association, which was formed in 1990.
Other HCCGA board officers to be seated March 3 are Vice President Hank Crutchfield, Treasurer Charlie Wilson and Secretary Aaron Nelson. Crutchfield is part of the Crutchfield family of citrus growers, caretakers and harvesters and has served on the board of directors since 2017. Wilson is a grower and owns Sunridge Harvesting; he has served multiple stints on the HCCGA board since 2001. Nelson is a production manager with Ben Hill Griffin, Inc.; he joined the board of directors in 2021.
The new officers were elected by the HCCGA board of directors during a Jan. 13 board meeting.
HCCGA members will be asked to approve some new association directors during the annual meeting. The directors chosen at the meeting will succeed board members whose three-year terms are expiring. HCCGA members interested in nominating board members should contact HCCGA Executive Director Ray Royce or Nominating Committee Chairman Trevor Murphy by Feb. 4.
The March 3 annual meeting will be held at the Seven Sebring Raceway Hotel. A social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., and a dinner program is set for 6:30 p.m. Guest speakers will discuss the state of Florida’s citrus industry, and association officers will give reports. Among other activities, the association will recognize Florida Citrus Mutual CEO Mike Sparks for his years of industry service. Sparks will retire from Mutual this year.
