In the December episode of the All In For Citrus podcast, Michael Rogers, director of the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Citrus Research and Education Center (CREC), gave a tip of the hat and congratulations to Ruth Borger who retired this fall.
Borger was the CREC communications specialist. She transitioned to this position after eight years as assistant vice president of UF/IFAS Communications. Rogers said, during her three-year stint on the job at CREC, she really had an influence and expanded and improved the way the researchers at the center communicate about the work they are doing on behalf of growers and the industry.
“Ruth was very instrumental in guiding us in what we can do and how we can do things better. She drilled into my head how we need to broaden how we communicate,” Rogers said. “This podcast we are on right now was one of the first ways we broadened our communications.”
Rogers conceded he was skeptical of the podcast, but five years into the project and on its 64th episode, he said the All In For Citrus podcast has become a popular way to spread the word about the university’s citrus research.
“We are going to miss Ruth as she transitions into retirement, because she has done a tremendous amount of work for us and laid the platform for us to communicate through these methods,” Rogers said. “We wish her a very happy retirement.”
Also featured in the December podcast episode are updates from John Chater, UF/IFAS assistant professor of horticultural sciences, and Sandra Guzmán, UF/IFAS agricultural engineer. Chater shares details on new research projects aimed at finding HLB-tolerant varieties. Guzmán discusses her IrrigMonitor software.
