At the Florida Citrus Show, growers will learn the latest research results that they can put to work in their groves. Doug Bournique, executive vice president of the Indian River Citrus League, encourages growers to attend the event to hear research straight from the source.
The Florida Citrus Show is hosted at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Indian River Research and Education Center and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Horticultural Research Laboratory in Fort Pierce. Scientists from UF/IFAS and USDA are ready to share their latest research. Growers can attend seminar sessions at both centers and visit the trade show in the parking lot before and after the sessions.
“The researchers are generating enough data so that they can provide growers with more results on key research items than ever before,” says Bournique. “The new therapies are showing real results, and there is enough time and science behind these results that growers will have confidence in utilizing these therapies to replant and rehab their existing trees.”
The new location of the show was a great success last year and will continue to provide growers with the most impactful experience. Researchers will present their talks in the seminars and socialize with growers in the tailgate-style trade show.
“The growers are coming to the researchers’ backyard,” says Bournique. “Hosting the show in the parking lot between the two centers provides a venue where researchers from both centers can spend more quality time with growers.”
Bournique explains that the informal nature of the trade show opens new doors for scientists to meet growers, benefiting both parties.
