Applications for the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association’s (FFVA) Mike and Karen Stuart Scholarship are due on April 15.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
The scholarship, with an award of $2,500, encourages and supports college students who intend to pursue a career in the specialty crop industry. It is open to incoming juniors through graduate program students.
Applicants may be interested in either production agriculture (growing, shipping, packing) or the allied industry (fertilizer, crop protection, equipment, food safety, sales and marketing, etc.). The scholarship is in recognition of the devotion and many years of service to the specialty crop industry that Mike and Karen Stuart provided.

PAST RECIPIENTS
The 2023 scholarship recipients were LaTaunya Tillman and Samarah Martin.
Tillman is a 2023 master’s graduate of the University of Florida, where she received a degree in food science and human nutrition development. Her studies led her to leadership roles within Driscoll’s East Coast Food Safety and Social Compliance department, where she rose through the ranks from representative to manager from 2017 until 2021. She hopes to pursue a career with University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension.
Martin is a junior at Florida International University studying biology and environmental studies. She hopes to work at the U.S. Department of Agriculture following her graduation in 2024 and focus on crop pest management and sustainability. She is also interested in advocating for equitable government policy and social programs surrounding crop production.
In 2021, Elanie Mason and Roberto Ortez were the first recipients of the scholarship. In 2022, Mason was a scholarship recipient again, along with Erin Parke Watson.
