The Florida Citrus Show united the specialty crop industry, informed farmers about trends impacting citrus and vegetables and prepared them for the upcoming season. In addition, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy tailgating treats that were prominent at the trade show.
It was an impactful event, says Morgan Assaf, Florida Citrus Show organizer for AgNet Media. “We had a very successful show,” Assaf said. “It’s a great time with food and fellowship. We had over 500 pre-registered attendees and 53 exhibitors. It was an excellent turnout and opportunity to bring the industry together.”
LOTS OF LEARNING
The event was held on March 13 at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Indian River Research and Education Center and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Horticultural Research Laboratory in Fort Pierce, Florida.
A general session started the day with topics centering on citrus research, labor and survival in the HLB era. Concurrent citrus and vegetable sessions were held in the afternoon. The program featured experts from UF/IFAS and USDA.
TAILGATE TIME
A highlight of the day was the tailgating experience during lunchtime. Growers and industry experts networked with exhibiting vendors while sampling the delicious delicacies that were offered.
“We love having this event with the tailgate. It’s a great way for all of the different industry representatives and growers to get together and discuss what’s going on,” Assaf said.
Attendees voted on their favorite tailgate food. BASF took home the prize for their oven-fired pizza. Walt Spaulding from Blue Goose Growers won a $500 drawing that was held for those who voted on their favorite food.

Growers and industry leaders should mark their calendars for the next AgNet Media event. The Citrus & Specialty Crop Expo returns to the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa on Aug. 20–21.
