The Georgia Citrus Association (GCA) is organizing an educational tour of citrus operations Kings River Packing and AC Foods in California April 14–17.
Kings River Packing is a family-owned citrus grower rooted in California’s Central Valley, with a legacy dating back to 1853. Eight generations later, Kings River Packing has expanded from its original 160-acre homestead to encompass 3,500 acres in Fresno and Tulare counties. It produces a diverse range of citrus fruit, and every fruit is hand-picked.
AC Foods is a vertically integrated agricultural company specializing in the cultivation, packing, shipping and marketing of citrus. Its operations span California, Oregon and Australia. It places a strong emphasis on sustainability, implementing regenerative agricultural practices to improve resource conservation, carbon sequestration and biodiversity. Its innovations in citrus cultivation often begin at TreeSource, its full-service nursery that serves growers worldwide.
GCA Executive Director Lindy Savelle called the tour “a unique opportunity to gain firsthand insight into their growing practices, nursery operations, packing facilities and juicing plants, all while exploring strategies that can help Georgia’s citrus industry grow and thrive … Learning from established leaders is crucial to ensuring long-term sustainability, improved production and market success.”
The trip is open to everyone, but GCA is especially encouraging those in positions of leadership, policy influence and industry development to attend.
Trip highlights include:
- Guided tours of citrus groves, nurseries and state-of-the-art packing facilities
- Meetings with industry experts to discuss sustainability, marketing and innovation
- Opportunities to network and collaborate with fellow Georgia citrus growers and leaders
- A chance to explore juicing plant operations and potential new market opportunities
Those interested in joining the tour or wanting more information should contact Savelle at 850-830-2644.
