Callaham graduated from the University of Florida College of Agriculture and joined Dundee in 1999. He is chairman of the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association and president of Florida Classic Growers. He serves on multiple industry boards and committees.

CUPS INVESTMENT

According to Callaham, Dundee CGA’s strong financial position gives it the agility to invest in solutions that strengthen its growers’ long-term sustainability. That includes large-scale adoption of citrus under protective screen (CUPS) production. He said Dundee is trialing high-value citrus varieties — such as mandarins, limes and specialty fruits — in CUPS. He said CUPS, along with investments in disease-resistant rootstocks and advanced grove management practices, enables Dundee to mitigate the impact of greening disease.

Callaham said that with innovations such as CUPS, the introduction of disease-resistant trees and advanced horticultural practices, Dundee is producing better quality fruit than ever.

Retailers say they need reliable supply, consistent eating experience and premium varieties, Callaham said, adding that Dundee is aligning its production with those demands.

By delivering fruit that meets the highest retail standards, Dundee is restoring confidence in Florida citrus, Callaham said. He added that Florida is well positioned to regain its strength as a citrus powerhouse.

HIS ADVICE

Asked for his advice for the next generation of agricultural leaders, Callaham suggested they embrace innovation, think creatively and surround themselves with smart and passionate people. He said leaders who make the biggest impact will take calculated risks, adopt new ideas and empower others to succeed.
