The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services recently approved TJ BioTech’s request for a Section 24(c) registration related to a fourth year of use of the oxytetracycline (OTC) product ReMedium TI®. The product is a systemic injectable antimicrobial for the control or suppression of huanglongbing (HLB) disease in citrus.
The Section 24(c) registration is a special local need registration. It is a state-level permit, authorized by the Environmental Protection Agency that allows for the use of a pesticide for an additional use or a new product to address a specific pest problem within that state.
The ReMedium TI® Section 24(c) registration allows for the product, when used in accordance with the label, to be applied for a fourth consecutive season with no restriction. This 24(c) is valid through Dec. 31, 2026.
POSITIVE RESEARCH RESULTS
Researchers with the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service and the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences recently reported positive results from using ReMedium TI® in conjunction with selected rootstocks.
“Not surprisingly, in general, both the superior rootstocks and OTC injection improved tree health and increased the production of fruit and total soluble solids per tree and per acre,” the researchers stated.
DELAYING DISEASE RESISTANCE
The ReMedium TI® label offers suggestions for delaying disease resistance to the product:
- Adopt an integrated disease management program that includes scouting, uses historical information related to pesticide use and impact of environmental conditions on disease development, disease thresholds, as well as cultural, biological and other chemical control practices.
- When feasible, ReMedium TI® antimicrobial fungicide/bactericide should be alternated with a comparable bactericide with a different mode of action.
