The U.S. Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA FAS) has forecast Mexican citrus production and trade for the 2025–26 season.
ORANGES
Orange production is forecast to decrease 2.8% from the previous year to 4.7 million metric tons (MMT).
Orange planted area is projected at 356,800 hectares, a 0.97% increase from the previous year.
Mexico’s fresh orange exports are forecast at 49,000 metric tons (MT), a decrease of 9% from 2024–25.
Orange imports are forecast at 31,000 MT, a 24% increase from the prior year. Mexico imports fresh oranges exclusively from the United States.

The production forecast for frozen concentrated orange juice (FCOJ) is 85,000 MT, down 2% from the prior year.
The FCOJ export forecast for 2025–26 is 81,000 MT, down from 81,439 MT in 2024–25.
FCOJ imports are forecast at 1,600 MT, consistent with the 1,509 MT from the previous year. The majority of FCOJ imported into Mexico is juice originally produced in Mexico that was shipped to the United States for packing and reimported to Mexico for the retail sector.
LEMONS/LIMES
The Mexican lemon/lime production forecast is 3.3 MMT, a 2.9% increase from the previous year.
Lemon/lime acreage is 223,500 hectares, with harvested area forecast at 219,490 hectares.
Exports are forecast at 780,000 MT, 3% higher than the previous year. Historically, the U.S. market accounts for more than 98% of total exports. Lime exports to the United States are predominantly of the Persian and Key lime variety. Mexico is the largest supplier of limes to the United States market. In 2024–25, more than 77% of total limes imported by the United States were of Mexican origin.
For 2025–26, lemon/lime imports are projected to remain unchanged from the prior year at 8,000 MT.
GRAPEFRUIT
Mexico’s grapefruit production forecast for 2025–26 is 489,000 MT, a minimal increase from the previous year.
The grapefruit planted area is projected at 22,140 hectares, a slight increase from 2024–25.
Mexico’s fresh grapefruit exports are forecast to increase to 10,000 MT, up from 6,000 MT the prior year.
Mexico’s grapefruit imports are minimal and are forecast at 1,000 MT. Over the past eight years, Mexico imported fresh grapefruit only from the United States.
