Citrus Show

The Florida Citrus Show has an excellent day of education and networking planned for citrus and specialty crop growers.

One of the most timely talks will cover post-freeze production considerations for citrus growers. Learn what Extension resources are available to growers to assist in their recovery efforts.

Citrus Research and Field Trial (CRAFT) programs have been a lifeline to growers as the fight against HLB continues. A demonstration will be given on how to utilize the CRAFT data portal. The website provides growers with a wealth of information on how rootstocks/varieties are performing, along with existing tree therapies like trunk injection. Steven Hall, CRAFT executive director, will also be moderating a panel of growers who are participating in the program to share their knowledge gained in the groves.

Several presentations will feature new varieties and their performance and tolerance to HLB. Maximizing production of existing groves will also be covered, including oxytetracycline use and pest management strategies. An update on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Grove-First Project will be given on new candidates for trunk-injection therapies to battle HLB.

Beyond the seminar hall, the event’s outdoor trade show features approximately 45 vendors that supply the goods and services growers need to keep their crops producing and their businesses running. The highlight of the trade show is a tailgate-style lunch. This has been a popular addition to the event that provides a fun atmosphere and great place to network with fellow growers and industry peers.

And don’t forget, the show also features a separate seminar session for specialty crops.

The Florida Citrus Show is scheduled for March 12. The event will be held at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Indian River Research and Education Center and the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service U.S. Horticultural Research Laboratory in Fort Pierce.
