Daniel CooperCrop Forecast, International

Türkiye

A U.S. Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA FAS) forecast for citrus in Türkiye in 2025–26 included a report on oranges and orange juice (OJ).

ORANGES

Orange production is forecast to decrease 15% to around 1.3 million metric tons (MMT). This is due to severe frost occurring in spring 2025.

The most popular orange types in Türkiye are Washington Navel, Yafa (Shamouti), Valencia, Moro and Taracco. In recent years, to extend the table orange season, Fukumoto, Lane Late and Cara Cara have gained importance.

The Mediterranean fruit fly remains a major concern in Türkiye. The pest causes quality and production losses.

Orange exports from Türkiye are expected to decrease 7% to 130,000 metric tons (MT) in parallel with the decrease in production. In 2024–25, Leading export destinations for fresh oranges were Russia, Ukraine, Iraq, Georgia and Romania.

Türkiye imports small amounts of oranges. Almost all of the imports come from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). In 2024–25, Türkiye imported around 23,000 MT of oranges from TRNC.

ORANGE JUICE

Turkish OJ production is forecast at 9,000 MT, down from 11,000 MT the prior year, due to fewer oranges sent to processing.

OJ exports are forecast at 6,000 MT, down from 6,300 MT the prior year. Top export destinations for Turkish OJ in 2024–25 were Netherlands (1,773 MT), China (825 MT), Ireland (548 MT), Italy (503 MT) and Iraq (424 MT).

OJ imports are estimated to increase to 4,000 MT, up from 2,500 MT in 2024–25. This is due to lower production in Türkiye. OJ imports in 2024–25 came mostly from Cyprus and Brazil. Imports are mainly frozen, sweetened and unsweetened OJ.
