Citrus grower and cattle rancher Ben Hill Griffin III, 78, of Frostproof, died July 25.
Griffin, son of the late Ben Hill Griffin Jr., was president and COO of Ben Hill Griffin, Inc. and a member of the Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame and the Florida Citrus Hall of Fame. He had previously been president and chairman of the board of Alico, Inc. and chairman and CEO of Orange-Co., Inc.
He served on many agricultural organization boards, usually in leadership positions. He had been president of Seald Sweet, Florida Citrus Packers and Florida Citrus Processors Association; and chairman of the Florida Citrus Commission.
Griffin had been a board member of the Citrus Associates of the New York Cotton Exchange and the National Juice Products Association; member of the executive committee of the Florida Ag Council; a director of the Florida Council of 100; chairman of the Florida Land Council; and board member of Tax Watch and the University of Florida and Florida Gulf Coast University foundations.
