
The U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service (USDA NASS), cooperating with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, recently released Florida’s 2024–25 Citrus Summary: Production, Price Per Box and Production by County.
PRODUCTION PLUNGES
Florida’s citrus production in 2024–25 was 14.6 million boxes, down 28% from the previous season’s 20.3 million boxes.
Orange production dropped 32% to 12.2 million boxes. Non-Valencia production at 4.6 million boxes was down 32% from the 2023–24 season. Valencia orange production at 7.6 million boxes was down 33%.
Grapefruit production decreased 27% to 1.3 million boxes.
Tangerine and tangelo production was down 11% from the previous season at 400,000 boxes.
Lemons, at 670,000 boxes, were added to the citrus production summary in the 2024–25 season.
TOP 5 COUNTIES
Polk County led Florida in citrus production in 2024–25 with 3.79 million boxes. Highlands (2.89 million boxes), Desoto (1.37 million boxes), Hardee (1.30 million boxes) and St. Lucie (1.27 million boxes) were next in line. Together these five counties account for 76% of the state’s total citrus production.
MOST PRICES IMPROVE
The 2024–25 season price per box for all oranges was $13.30, up from $10.01 in the prior season. Fresh orange prices averaged $17.85 per box, up from $15.05 the prior season. Processed orange prices averaged $12.86, up from $9.46 the prior season.
The price for all Valencia oranges was $14 per box, up from $10.78 the prior season. The price for all non-Valencia oranges was $12.13 per box, up from $8.74 the prior season.
The average price for all tangerines and tangelos was $20.93 per box, down from $43.70 the prior season.
The average price for all grapefruit was $22.08, up from $21.22 the prior season. The average price for fresh grapefruit was $27.93, up from $26.18 the prior season. The average price for processed grapefruit was $9.42, down from $11.11 the prior season.
