The award ceremony was part of the opening afternoon of the exhibition week. Sala, who has worked at Fundecitrus 32 years, said, “We have worked tirelessly, transforming the science generated by researchers into field practice with citrus growers. Citrus farming requires that our work be constantly reinvented in the face of the many different challenges that greening imposes on us. We are certain that we are on the right path.”

Sala was born in Tabatinga, São Paulo. In 1991, he graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering from the Sao Paulo State University School of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences. In 2013, he completed his master’s degree in citrus pest and disease control from Fundecitrus. Since 1993, he has worked as an agricultural engineer at Fundecitrus. Sala provided technical guidance to citrus growers in the Tabatinga region, managed citrus canker inspection teams and provided technical guidance to citrus growers for pest and disease control in the Catanduva and Itápolis regions of São Paulo. Since 2013, he has worked as a technical supervisor, coordinating the technology transfer area.

Fundecitrus stated that Sala has worked for the benefit of citrus farming and he stands out for the implementation and management of the technology transfer area. He has focused on improving the control of citrus pests and diseases for citrus producers and professionals. He has participated in the development and management of the Phytosanitary Alert System, today known as Psyllid Alert. He has also coordinated the field survey of the incidence of greening in the Citrus Belt and has worked in development and management of the external greening control program.
