Brazil’s Fundecitrus made a presentation about its Good Fruits (Bons Frutos) program during a recent webinar promoted by the Sustainable Juice Platform. The Sustainable Juice Platform is an initiative of the European Fruit Juice Association, which represents the fruit juice industry in the European Union.
The online event regarding the orange industry in Brazil had approximately 50 participants from various countries and included members of the citrus production and juice chain. It highlighted sustainability projects in the field that aim for good agricultural and environmental practices in citrus farming.
Another Brazilian initiative presented during the webinar was the Resilient Fruit Project – Next Phase, from Solidaridad Brazil. That project and the Good Fruits program transform sustainability commitments into practical actions on rural properties.
Fundecitrus researcher and coordinator of the Good Fruits program, Franklin Behlau, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the social dimension of sustainability. “Fundecitrus has been working extensively in recent years to increase economic and environmental sustainability, and now, through Good Fruits, it is working more strongly to increase social sustainability, which is important for strengthening the image of the sector as a whole,” Behlau said.
The Sustainable Juice Platform is a collaborative initiative that promotes the integration of environmental, social and governance principles throughout the fruit juice chain. Its focus is on bringing together the different actors in the chain to jointly address socio-economic and environmental impacts, risks and opportunities. Through a sector-wide approach, the platform strengthens cooperation, information sharing and the dissemination of best practices in sustainability, social responsibility and responsible sourcing.
