Seeking Centennial Growers and Production Costs

Florida Citrus Mutual (FCM) is seeking information about centennial growers — families that have been in the citrus business 100 years or more — so it can honor them. The statewide grower organization is also asking growers to participate in surveys that will determine the cost of production of Florida fresh grapefruit and processed oranges.

CENTENNIAL GROWERS

FCM wants to recognize families who have been part of the Sunshine State’s citrus heritage for a century or longer. It invites families that have been actively involved in the Florida citrus industry for 100 years or more to share their stories.

Applicants who demonstrate participation in the Florida citrus industry for 100 years or more will be featured on the FCM website. Each family will participate in an interview. The interviews, “Five Questions with a Centennial Citrus Grower,” will be pitched to state and local media outlets, allowing growers to share their families’ unique stories and involvement in the Florida citrus industry.

PRODUCTION COSTS

FCM is working with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF|IFAS) Citrus Research and Education Center to collect grower data on production costs for fresh grapefruit and processed oranges. This data is crucial for UF/IFAS to be able to provide accurate assessments based on grower input costs and yield returns/improvements. Data collected from this survey will allow UF/IFAS to provide up-to-date information for growers to make operational decisions.

Growers can access the fresh grapefruit survey here and the processed orange survey here.

Responses to the surveys are anonymous and confidential. No individual data provided by growers through the survey will be disclosed. Completed surveys and any questions can be emailed to UF/IFAS economist Ariel Singerman (asingerman@ufl.edu).
